Last October (2015), the Cal Fire Chief’s association sent out a notice asking for anyone interested in CERT to attend a quick gathering at the county building on Monterey street. It was quickly evident that, despite a meeting time of 5pm on a Friday, there was an overwhelming desire. The largest room in the building was devoid of standing room within minutes of the doors being opened.
A smaller group of volunteers agreed to meet again the following month. They set out to define what a county-wide CERT would look like and what its goals would be. Within six months the first draft of the Bylaws was presented and multiple subcommittees were created to research the first few projects.
On July 25th, the group voted in its first group of Officers and ratified the initial nonprofit documents. These were submitted to the State shortly thereafter.
