Event Type

This is an opportunity to participate in an upcoming Evacuee Monitoring and Decontamination Exercise at Camp Roberts. The dress rehearsal is on Wednesday, September 20th, 2017, and the FEMA graded exercise is on Wednesday, October 25th, 2017. A total of 50 volunteers are needed on both days.

These exercises are a great opportunity to learn how San Luis Obispo County would respond to an event at
Diablo Canyon Power Plant requiring the activation of the Evacuee Monitoring and Decontamination Center at Camp Roberts. As a volunteer, you will be simulating an evacuee that has possibly been exposed to a radiation release. You will be monitored for contamination and either be classified as “contaminated” (exposed to radiation) or “not contaminated” (not exposed to radiation). You will be guided through a simulation of the decontamination and reception process. Lunch will be provided. This exercise will require moderate physical activity including walking, standing, and sitting with the possibility of hot weather. Remember, the most important rule of any exercise is safety for the participants and responders.

Before you sign up for this exercise, consider the following:

  1. Are you in reasonably good health?
  2. Are you able to be aware of your safety and the safety of those around you?
  3. Are you able to understand and follow basic commands?
  4. Are you available from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm on 9/20 & 10/25?
  5. Are you able to work outdoors in hot weather conditions?
